Celebrate Carers Week: two special events

‘Celebrate Carers Week’: A public event on June 15

On June 15, Mayor of Hounslow Sue Sampson will be speaking to the public at a special event to mark Carers Week in Sainsbury’s. The event is organised by NHS Hounslow Clinical Commissioning Group and Hounslow Council.

When: Thursday 15 June 2017, 11.30am-1.30pm

Where: Sainsbury’s Chiswick, 31 Essex Place, London W4 5UT

This is an event for all carers in the borough of Hounslow to celebrate the work they do in supporting relatives and friends who are often under acknowledged. A carer is someone who looks after a friend or family member who due to illness, disability, a mental health problem or an addiction cannot cope without their support.

The event will also be a great chance for people to find out about NHS and council services available in the borough.

‘Are you looking after somebody?’ A public event on June 12

When: Monday 12 June 2017, 10am-2pm

Where:  Isleworth Town Hall, South Street, Isleworth TW7 7BG

There will be stalls providing information on NHS, council, and charity services relevant to carers and patients in Hounslow.

What is Carers Week?

Carers Week is an annual campaign to celebrate carers and recognise the contribution they make to the people they care for, and to wider society. This year Carers Week will run from 12-18 June, and the theme is carer-friendly communities.

A carer-friendly community is built to make sure carers have everything they need to best look after their loved ones.

We’d love you to attend one or both of these events. You’ll get the opportunity to interview NHS and council representatives, including the Mayor of Hounslow. You’ll also be able to talk to local people including carers and patients about their experiences of caring, what the NHS and the council gets right, and what they would like to see change or improve.

There will be opportunities to take photos throughout the day and there will also be follow-up photos available after the day – so if you can’t make it but would still like to cover this great story for Carers Week then get in touch with communications@nw.london.nhs.uk for pictures, quotes, and more.
