Flu vaccinations – residents over 65 years old being invited now

Most Hounslow GP surgeries have received their stock of flu vaccine for patients who are over 65 years old. If you are in this age group, your practice will contact you by letter or text with information about where and when to get your flu jab.

Some GP surgeries are waiting to receive their vaccines for patients aged 15 to 64. Vaccine deliveries are being staggered and unfortunately there have been some delays. If you are eligible for the free flu vaccine, but you are under 64 years old, please wait for your surgery to contact you with more information about when and where to go to get your flu jab. You may have to wait until later this month or November to receive your vaccine from your surgery.

You can also receive your flu jab from a local community pharmacy if you are in a high risk group and eligible for a free flu vaccination. Some pharmacies may also vaccinate those who are not eligible for a free flu jab at a charge – but high risk groups are being prioritised and you may be asked to wait before booking an appointment.

GP surgery and pharmacy staff are working hard to organise this year’s flu vaccinations. Some practices are delivering vaccinations in car parks to increase delivery capacity and reduce any risk to patients and staff.

Given the exceptional circumstances this year, GP surgeries and pharmacies must focus on vaccinating those most seriously at risk from flu first. If you have concerns about your flu jab, please speak to your GP surgery in the first instance.
