Legal duties

The Health and Social Care Act 2012 introduced significant amendments to the NHS Act 2006, especially with regard to how NHS commissioners will function.

These amendments include two complementary duties for clinical commissioning groups with respect to patient and public participation. This document sets out the relevant statutory duties and provides a summary of related legislation that commissioners will find useful when developing their response.

You can read our legal duties for consultation and engagement here.
